Detroit Lions releasing veteran WR with Drew Petzing ties

In a cutdown day shocker, the Detroit Lions are releasing veteran wide receiver and return specialist Greg Dortch.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero was first to report that the Lions were releasing Dortch. It's a surprise to many because Dortch brought familiarity with first-year offensive coordinator Drew Petzing to the Motor City and the ability to help the Lions in the return game.

The Lions are releasing veteran WR Greg Dortch, per source.

Dortch signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Lions back in March. It included $1 million guaranteed, per Spotrac.

Dortch, 27, caught 29 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns last season in Arizona. In his six-year NFL career, the 5-foot-7, 180-pound receiver has reeled in 145 catches for 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dortch spent the past three seasons with Petzing as his OC in Arizona.

Dortch also has 99 career punt returns for 886 yards and 75 kickoff returns for 1,773 yards.
