Notre Dame 6th round draft pick named to Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster

It’s not a guarantee that if you are drafted into the NFL, that you’ll stick there during your first season, but there are a few schools like Notre Dame that help the cause.

The Irish added another feather in their NFL cap on Sunday afternoon, as it was announced that defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio has made the Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster. After being taken with pick No. 210 overall, he overcame an injury during his senior season and will now live out his NFL dreams.

Over the course of five years, Rubio had 66 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and batted three passes, but it wasn’t the numbers that made him valuable. The fact that he would often take on multiple lineman to open up his teammates to make plays shows how selfless he plays, and that has translated over to the Steelers.

Surely his father is excited with this announcement, as Angel also played for Pittsburgh for two seasons following a three-time All-American career at Southeast Missouri State. The Rubio’s should be extremely proud, as is all of Irish Nation.
