Okay, I’m just gonna post the goal videos here, and then we’re gonna talk about what actually happened. Going in chronological order then:

So there you go. Final score: #23 Wisconsin 3, Marquette 1.

“Ah, well, just went against you in a match against a ranked opponent, probably weren’t going to stay undefeated all season, eh?”

Yeah, no. Your shot totals in this match: Wisconsin 21, Marquette 4.

The Badgers probably should have won by more, as they only got to three on a penalty kick that actually took multiple reviews to finally happen, and on top of that MU keeper Cameron Simpson had to make seven saves — including one on another penalty kick! — to keep the margin at just two. This was an asskicking, with the Golden Eagles getting outshot 9-2 in the second half. After Marquette got outshot 12-5 in their season opening draw with Oakland and then went kind of even in the next two while securing a 2-0 win and a 4-2 win, we’ve yet to see Marquette play a strong controlling type of match. That’s not ideal with the level of competition that’s lurking in Big East play, and this was a concern coming into the season as well.

Up Next: Marquette will return to action this coming Saturday when they play host to Northwestern. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm Central in the Valley, and ESPN+ will have the broadcast. The Wildcats are 2-1-1 on the year after taking a 3-2 loss to Xavier in Evanston on Monday night.
