A soggy start for many high school teams on Tuesday. Here's who won

⚽Girls Soccer - Division I

La Salle 7, Mt. Hope 0 

Emily Flynn's highlight strike in the third minute put the Rams on their way to an opening victory over the visiting Huskies at Cimini Stadium in Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Flynn found the top right corner from all of 25 yards and La Salle was razor-sharp from there while playing for the first time this season as defending state champions. Mila Falcone tucked one under the crossbar in the 13th minute and Allie Scott headed home a rebound off a Falcone shot in the 35th as the Rams took complete command before the break. 

Scott added her second shortly after halftime to continue what was a strong performance along the left wing for La Salle (1-0-0). Grace Keenan made a sliding left-handed save on Mt. Hope striker Sara Nencka in the 70th minute to preserve the shutout. The Huskies (0-2-0) played without All-Stater and Boston College commit EmmaGoglia, who was nursing a minor injury.  

Classical 1, Westerly 1

Both teams scored in first half on a rain soaked evening at Augeri Field in Westerly, with the Purple's Lucy Weber striking in the first two minutes, and the Bulldogs finding the equalizer at the 30-minute mark.

Westerly's Sienna Mathieu scored her team's lone goal, assisted by Isabella Wheeler, and goalie Phoebe Brennan recorded three saves late in the game to preserve the tie.

Westerly had nine shots on goal (five corner kicks) and Classical had six shots on goal (two corner kicks).

⚽Boys Soccer - Division IIIMiddletown 9, Rogers 0

Goalkeeper Colin Agren kept the Islanders unbeaten on the young the season with a clean sheet as Middletown blanked the rival Vikings on Tuesday at Braga Park. Both Julian Peckham and HugoLyman scored three goals to lead the offense.

Nick DeSouza added a goal and three assists, and Avery Sodeberg and Owen Roberts each had a goal in the win. Middletown improves to 2-0, while Rogers opens its season with a loss.

🏐Girls Volleyball - Division I

Classical 3, Portsmouth 0

Amaya Womack led the Purple with 11 kills, four aces and eight digs as Classical swept the Patriots (25-18, 25-17, 25-19). Dara Agramonte added seven kills and 19 assists, and Marlowe Castille had six kills, 14 assists and four aces.

For Portsmouth in the loss, Audrey Abedon had five kills and five digs, and PeytonWinn made four kills and two blocks.

Chariho 3, Prout 0

The Chargers, energized by the play of Abby Tiernan, who recorded seven kills, five aces and eight assists, went on to sweep the Crusaders, 25-22, 25-18, 25 15.

For Prout in the loss, Gabby Andrade had 14 digs and three aces and Brooke Rutherford had 10 assists.

Barrington 3, South Kingstown 1 

Charlotte Farrell recorded 13 kills and 3 aces and teammate Riley Fogarty was good for 5 kills, 6 aces and 6 digs to help lead the Eagles to victory over the Rebels (21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-11).

For the Rebels, Lila Moffitt recorded 3 aces, 11 kills, 15 digs, Shannon Mcgarthy had 5 aces, 7 kills and 10 digs and Elizabeth Spinella totaled 6 aces, 12 assists and 1 kill in the loss.

North Kingstown 3, Cranston West 0

The Skippers recorded their second straight win to start the season, blanking the Falcons (25-5, 25-16, 25-15). Claire Welch had three aces and five kills, Isla Arnold had seven kills and a pair of aces in the win.

For Cranston West, Emily Kodzis had 10 digs in the loss.

🏑Field Hockey - Division I

After a scoreless first quarter, Barrington's Shelby Gasbarro scored in the second to give the Eagles an early lead. But the Avengers would answer with strikes by Olivia Roland, followed by a goal from Madelyn Fairbanks to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.

East Greenwich added another goal midway through the third quarter when Olivia Roland found the net. Barrington scored once more, in the fourth, when AshleyDaCosta cut the deficit to one, and that's how the game ended.

In net, Barrington goalie Ella Mejia had 22 saves and East Greenwich's EmmaGuckian made nine saves in the win.
