Aside from questions about when he might retire, there have been conversations about his allegiance to the Warriors. Curry wants to contend for his fifth championship, and Golden State isn’t the perfect place for him. The team has struggled to build a competitive group around him this summer, and it has led to various trade rumors.
On Monday, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson talked with Curry about his plans for his Warriors tenure. According to the two-time MVP, he’s confident that he will remain with the organization until he retires.

“The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we’re not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we’re coming back with has a lot of familiarity. Hopefully we can be healthy and just have a chance to show what we’re capable of, myself included, missing so many games last year.”

Stephen Curry has expressed his interest in staying with one organization for the rest of his career. Rumor has it that Curry wants to leave the Warriors to challenge for his fifth championship. However, the star guard has shown no hints that he wants to play for a different franchise.

However, it was reported that Curry should stall on signing the extension with the Warriors and wait until next summer. During his interview with Johnson, the star guard believes both sides will figure things out at the right time.
“The goal stays the same. Extension stuff, we’ll figure that out at the right time. But I’m ready for year 18. It’s kind of crazy that it’s been this long, and I’m still trying to play at a very high level to help us win, and I’ll be able to do my job,” he said.
Curry’s one-year, $62.5 million contract extension will take effect in the 2026-27 season. After that, he can negotiate a new deal with the Warriors next offseason.
