Florida State Seminoles defensive coordinator Tony White has announced his Nole Awards for FSU's Week 0 win against the New Mexico State Aggies.
He honored six players for their performance in the 34-17 win, with defensive back Quindarrius Jones being named the defensive player of the game for his interception on New Mexico State's opening drive, which was also named the biggest defensive play of the game. He was the only Seminole to win two awards after recording the interceptions, a pass breakup and a tackle in the game.
Deante McCray was the defensive lineman of the game. The senior has two tackles, including a tackle for loss. The linebacker group was well represented, with Chris Jones winning the award for being the most physical player and Mikai Gbayor for showing the most effort.
Jones, who was FSU's highest-graded PFF player in the game, finished second on the team with six tackles. Gbayor, who played just 17 snaps, had four tackles, 1.0 sack, and a tackle for loss. The final award went to senior quarterback Michael Grant, who was named the scout team player of the week.
The Seminoles will return to action on Monday when they host the No. 20 SMU Mustangs in their ACC opener. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be on ESPN.
