The Green Bay Packers have been one of the most talked about teams in the NFL over the last few days, but not for positive reasons. While the team is trying to prepare for a season in which they expect to make a deep run in the NFL Playoffs, one of their best players, three-time Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs, has made the wrong kind of headlines.
Back in May, Jacobs was arrested in Brown County, Wisconsin following a violent altercation with his girlfriend. While he was initially booked on five counts, including a brutal felony, he was recently indicted on two misdemeanor charges: battery and destruction of property.
Over the weekend, Roger Goodell decided to place the Packers running back on the commissioner’s exempt list. While this is not a suspension, Jacobs cannot practice or play in games. He also could be suspended on a later date.

After Jacobs was initially arrested, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated that he was surprised by the allegations, but would allow the legal process to play out. Jacobs was a full participate in training camp and practiced with the team up until his placement on the exempt list.
On Tuesday, LaFleur talked to the media for the first time since Goodell’s decision. While the things that Jacobs is accused of doing are atrocious, Green Bay’s head coach told them that he believes his Pro Bowl running back’s version of events, at least for now.
“There have been many conversations, certainly don’t know all the details, but what he tells me, I believe in him and I trust him and will do so until I’m proven otherwise,” LaFleur said.
“Until proven otherwise” is the real key to his statement. Court documents state that law enforcement possesses security camera footage from Jacobs’ residence that shows him acting violently towards his girlfriend. The Packers state they have not seen that video.
But to be honest, one should assume that they would say that even if they did see the video. To be blunt, many Packers fans do not want Jacobs on the team anymore based on what he is accused of doing. If the team has continued to employ him after seeing evidence of what he allegedly did, it would not go over well.
