With Everton now scraping the bottom of the barrel in their search for their next right back, a name from the past has popped up in Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Reports indicate that the Toffees have an agreement with Olympique Lyon for the versatile fullback who is into the last year of his contract with the French side. The 29-year-old has featured in 119 games for Lyon scoring 6 goals with 16 assists in that time, having played 132 times for Arsenal before that with 3 goals and 8 assists.

As of yesterday Everton were planning to bring in Kenny Tete from Fulham to fill in the gaping hole at the right back position, but the London side have been reluctant to let him go given their difficulties with Real Sociedad in getting his replacement Andrei Ratiu signed.

Maitland-Niles is nothing if not flexible, having pretty much lined up at every position on the pitch bar striker and goalkeeper in his career.

Earlier today reports indicated that Nathan Patterson was already in Italy for a medical at Torino, which leaves the Toffees with just one specialist fullback on the books in Vitaliy Mykolenko.
