The New Jersey Devils have made it clear that improving their organization goes beyond the NHL roster. Now, another piece of that plan is falling into place in Utica.
The Utica Comets announced Tuesday that Adam Pawlick has been named president of the organization, taking over the day-to-day business operations as Robert Esche shifts his focus toward his role as CEO of Mohawk Valley Garden.
Per the Comets, Pawlick will oversee ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing, game presentation and the overall fan experience while continuing to strengthen the franchise’s connection with the Mohawk Valley community.
“Adam has earned this opportunity through years of hard work, leadership, and commitment to our organization,” Esche said in the team press release.
The move comes at an important time for the Devils’ AHL affiliate.
New Jersey general manager Sunny Mehta and assistant general manager/Comets GM Braden Birch have made improving Utica and organizational depth a clear priority this offseason. The Devils significantly reshaped the Comets’ roster, adding players with established AHL experience rather than relying almost entirely on prospects to drive team success.
That same emphasis is now being reflected off the ice.
“Our main focus is to create a winning atmosphere in Utica for our players and fans,” Mehta and Birch said in a joint statement.
Pawlick’s promotion gives the organization another piece of stability as the Devils attempt to make Utica a more productive development environment and, ultimately, strengthen the franchise from top to bottom.
We are now just one month away from the beginning of the Devils’ regular season.
