Dundee have immediate opportunity to bounce back

The first-half display from Hibernian in their 2-1 win on Sunday was the best I've seen from an away team at Dens Park in a long time. We were lucky to only be a single goal behind at half-time.

I'm left thinking, 'could we have done more?'

It felt like we didn't have any grasp on the game until the final 10 minutes, particularly after Jacob Devaney was substituted. He was the best player on the park by a distance and Dundee struggled to find an answer to him.

I'm reserving my criticism for now until we play St Johnstone on Wednesday evening and see whether those shortcomings are still visible. Our games against the Perth side tend to be good ones to watch and having the chance to bounce back in front of the home crowd just days later is ideal.

The players have an opportunity to wash the weekend's disappointment out of their system immediately and to react positively on the back of a defeat can be an asset in itself. The best teams in Scotland are tenacious and we've won the following games after both defeats we've taken in the league so far.

A weekend trip to Tynecastle is on the horizon too, providing a great contrast of tests this week. First, the newly-promoted side at home, then arguably the toughest venue in the league.

Dundee need to patch up the vulnerabilities Hibs exposed and bring back the team that shone against Aberdeen just a few weeks ago.

First thing's first, we need to see if Sunday was just a blip and our midweek game will have the answers.
