Jazz Chisholm Jr. not interested in Will Flemming’s apology: ‘I’m still not going to remember who he is after today’

Boston Red Sox radio announcer Will Flemming apologized on Monday for his comments over the weekend about Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The New York Yankees’ second baseman doesn’t appear to have accepted it.

Flemming referred to Chisholm as a “bush league player” who “plays the game the wrong way” after he stole two bases in a game on Sunday that was 7-1 at the time. The annoyance appeared to stem from the Red Sox not holding Chisholm on first base, which tends to indicate they are unconcerned about the base runner advancing, and Flemming seemed to think the Yankees star was showboating.

“And Morán should fight Chisholm,” Flemming suggested as he described the Red Sox pitcher as walking toward the third base line to stare at Chisholm. “Wouldn’t you sort of like to see [Jovani] Morán drill [Austin] Wells right here?”

“They’re called unwritten rules because you’re not really breaking any rules,” Chisholm said Monday of the drama. “You’ve seen teams — actually them (last season) — do the same thing where they’re pouring on runs. We didn’t have nothing to say or nothing to do about it. That’s just showing how unprofessional he is.”

Chisholm was referring to an August 2025 game the Red Sox won 12-1 after scoring seven runs in the ninth inning.

Following Sunday’s eventual 16-1 win, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that he’d told Chisholm to steal.

“I’m an old-school baseball guy,” Boone said. “I’ve been around doing this forever. I respect some of the unwritten rules. I really do. I think they’ve evolved and changed some. At the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s right for my team and try not to get so caught up in what the other team’s doing. I felt like we did the right thing.”

Boone said Flemming apologized to him over the phone on Monday, and he accepted the apology. The WEEI radio play-by-play announcer also apologized publicly on social media, saying his comments “crossed a line” and that his fandom “bled into the broadcast.”

Flemming does not appear to have apologized directly to Chisholm, and when asked about it, it sounds like that’s just fine with the Yankees’ second baseman.

“To be honest with you, I don’t,” Chisholm said.

“I didn’t even know who that was until this morning,” Chisholm added, referring to Flemming. “And I’m still not going to remember who he is after today.”
