MAIZE, Kan. (KSNW) — Our high school football previews now take us to Maize.
Head Coach Gary Guzman’s squad lost quite a few players on both sides of the ball from last season. The Eagles are coming off a great year, finishing 10-1 with their only loss coming to Manhattan late in the playoffs.
They’ll be another team with a new man under center, as the quarterback position is currently a battle between four players, with former starter Brayden Myovela graduating.
South Dakota commit Pearce George will be a key piece of the offense. He’s also one of the top receivers in the state. With another senior-heavy class, Guzman and his players say the focus throughout the offseason was on building chemistry.

"And yeah, it’s really paid off in the camps and stuff as we’ve progressed throughout the summer. Each one we’ve gotten better."
“Yeah, everybody’s excited, you know, ready to get back into it,” said senior defensive back Vincent Rosas. "Most of our guys are seniors, so we got a lot on the line."
“We do have a lot of guys with experience that we’re leaning heavily on, and everybody’s got a role to play,” said head coach Gary Guzman.
The Eagles will open the season at home against Andover Central on Friday, Sept. 4.
