49ers starter among Kyle Shanahan injury updates after win vs Chargers

The San Francisco 49ers couldn't quite get out of SoFi Stadium without any injuries.

Keeping players healthy is the top priority in the preseason and head coach Kyle Shanahan had a trio of injury updates immediately following his team's 41-17 romp over the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday.

Cornerback Renardo Green left the game early with a hamstring issue. Shanahan said the team doesn't know the extent of the damage just yet.

"We'll have to get some imaging on that tomorrow to see if he pulled it," Shanahan said.

The other key injury came to reserve offensive lineman Austen Pleasants who went down with a knee injury in the third quarter. Shanahan told reporters it isn't an ACL tear, but they'll find out exactly what the injury is after imaging Friday.

Linebacker Nick Martin also exited the game late with a hamstring issue, per Shanahan. An injury for Martin would be particularly rough since he's trying to hold on to a roster spot with fewer than two weeks until final cuts are due. Martin forced a special teams fumble before exiting Thursday's game.

Shanahan later on indicated left guard Robert Jones is dealing with an unspecified injury that could keep him out for the third preseason game. Jones is one of the leading candidates for the starting left guard job so his absence down the stretch could be massive in the 49ers' hunt for a starting left guard.

We should get more information when Shanahan speaks with reporters Saturday at practice.
