‘Fee agreed’ for Bradley Barcola between Liverpool and PSG as Cody Gakpo decision made

One journalist has revealed the structure of a package which has been agreed between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola.

Once David Ornstein reported earlier this week that the two clubs have an ‘agreement in principle’ over the 23-year-old, it’s felt like simply a matter of when and not if the transfer would go through, and it now looks set to be finalised before the Tuesday night deadline.

There has also been much speculation in recent weeks over the future of Cody Gakpo, with Andoni Iraola reluctant to guarantee that the Netherlands forward will remain at Anfield when he spoke to the media on Thursday.

On Saturday morning, transfer reporter Alex Crook took to X to confirm the financial details of Barcola’s imminent move to Liverpool and outline the Merseyside club’s stance on their Dutch winger.

He posted: ‘The fee agreed between LFC and PSG re Barcola is £106m plus £17m add-ons. Cody Gakpo unlikely to be sold unless the Reds sign a second forward in addition to Barcola.’

Earlier this summer, some sources had claimed that the European champions were demanding €170m (£145.5m) for Barcola, so for Liverpool to secure a deal for little over £100m up front and up to £123m overall looks comparatively astute.

It’s still a massive fee which’d make him the Reds’ second most expensive signing of all time, but it was always going to take a nine-figure sum to get him to Anfield, considering the current market for wide attackers, the player’s ability and our need for an elite winger to replace Mo Salah.

At least it looks as though the transfer should be finalised in advance of the 11pm deadline on Tuesday, unlike the Alexander Isak saga last year which went to literally the last minute of the summer window.

Barcola appears to be on his way to Liverpool, and it’s also looking good in terms of them keeping Gakpo, who’s looked sharp in recent games and scored a tremendous goal in the Premier League opener against Newcastle six days ago.

The Reds might yet decide to add one more winger before the market shuts, but we’d be quite happy to keep hold of the Dutchman even if it means there are no further additions to our attack.

If Liverpool can get the Barcola move finalised and keep their number 18 at Anfield, that’d represent a significant double win for the club in the final days of the transfer window.
