The BVB Women kicked things off: One by one, the players took the field at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK and were cheered on by the fans. New signing Manuela Zinsberger was visibly impressed: “Great stadium, great fans!” Defensive leader Frederike Kempe added: “We’ve prepared intensively for the start of the season and are thrilled about the tremendous support.”
Newcomer Alex Popp received by far the loudest applause. The new captain explained: “The first few weeks have been absolutely wonderful. The team has welcomed me warmly. I’m very optimistic. We need the fans’ support so we can fulfill our big dream of promotion.” Applause from the stands!
Head coach Markus Högner summed up the team’s ambitions: “We stand for attacking and bold football!”
Anticipation for the derby among the first teamThe mood was also great among the BVB first team players. Defender Waldemar Anton made it clear just how much he and his teammates had been looking forward to returning to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK: “I’m really excited. We’ve all really missed being here.”
Stadium announcer Nobby Dickel provided the laugh of the afternoon when he asked Maxi Beier, “What are you looking forward to more: scoring goals or setting them up?” The answer was brief but clear: “The derby!” (cr)
