The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has unveiled an extensive international cricket schedule that will see Afghanistan host both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the United Arab Emirates during October and November. This series marks an important opportunity for Afghanistan to engage in competitive cricket across all formats.
The action kicks off with a one-off Test match against Bangladesh, set to take place from October 9 to 13. Following this, Afghanistan will participate in a tri-nation One Day International (ODI) series alongside Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, running from October 17 to 23. Each team will compete in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final scheduled for October 23.
After the ODI series, Afghanistan will shift its focus to T20 cricket, facing Zimbabwe in a three-match T20 International series. The T20 matches are slated for October 27, October 29, and November 1, providing a fast-paced conclusion to the limited-overs segment of the tour.
The series will culminate in a two-Test series against Zimbabwe, beginning on November 5, with the second Test scheduled for November 13 to 17. This extensive schedule is designed to enhance Afghanistan's competitive edge in international cricket while also allowing fans to enjoy a prolonged period of action.
ACB Chief Executive Naseeb Khan emphasized the significance of this series, stating, "Playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe across different formats will provide our players with valuable competitive opportunities." Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Test, noting it would be a critical experience for his players as they face Afghanistan in red-ball cricket in the UAE. He acknowledged Afghanistan's strong record in the UAE, highlighting the challenge it presents for his team.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni also welcomed the opportunity, stating that the ODI series would offer quality competition. He noted the importance of the two Tests for Zimbabwe, as the team seeks more regular opportunities in the longest format of the game.
