Napoli have made an approach for Joshua Zirkzee following Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Fenerbahce.
That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, who adds that the Manchester United star is ‘on his way out’ from Old Trafford this summer.
Napoli set sights on Zirkzee and two other Premier League strikersHowever, Zirkzee isn’t the only name on Napoli’s shortlist.
Di Marzio has also revealed that the Italian giants are interested in Nicolas Jackson, who’s facing an uncertain future at Chelsea following the conclusion of his loan with Bayern Munich, as well as Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.
Yet, any concrete offers for the strikers will have to wait until Massimiliano Allegri’s side facilitate another forward’s sale.
United are said to be open to parting ways with Zirkzee, provided their terms are met.
For example, if they agree to let him leave on loan, a buy obligation – rather than an option – would have to be included in order to avoid a situation akin to Marcus Rashford’s, where Barcelona looked as though they wanted to sign him before letting his buy option expire.
How has Zirkzee fared at United? In line with that, Rashford’s reintegration at United does directly make things harder for Zirkzee, as he now has one more counterpart to battle it out with for minutes.
The 25-year-old was limited to just five starts last term, and was one member of the squad who felt the detrimental impact of United’s premature cup exits and lack of European football.
Back in 2024, the Reds shelled out £36.5 million to bring Zirkzee in from Bologna on a five-year deal.
He has since accumulated nine goals and four assists in the 75 appearances he’s made across all competitions, so it’s no surprise INEOS are considering cashing in after only two seasons.
