Jose Mourinho is adamant that Real Madrid do not need Rodri and said the club do not want players who 'hesitate' about joining.
Real Madrid appeared frontrunners to sign Rodri from Manchester City earlier in the window, but missed out on the Spain captain toBarcelona.
The 30-year-oldcompleted his £65.4m transfer to Barcelona earlier this week, signing a four-year deal with the La Liga champions.
Mourinho had viewed the World Cup-winning captain as the ideal name to restore Real Madrid's midfield, which has lacked a controller since the exits of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
However, Mourinho said Rodri's hesitation about moving to Madrid 'created doubts' in his own mind, insisting the Spanish side are of such stature that transfer targets cannot deliberate the move.
He added that he has confidence in the club's current midfield options to succeed this season, insisting Real Madrid 'don't need' Rodri.
Mourinho on losing Rodri to Barca: “His hesitation created doubts—Madrid won’t beg for anyone”"I spoke to him a couple of times and Real Madrid made him a very good offer," Mourinho said in an interview withEl Chiringuito.
"Rodri had doubts, he hesitated, and Rodri's doubts created doubts for me. Real Madrid is of a dimension that cannot have players who second-guess themselves.
