Alexandre Pantoja is gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch against Joshua Van at UFC 331, scheduled for September 19 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This bout comes nearly eight months after Pantoja lost his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight title to Van due to an unfortunate arm injury that occurred just moments into their first encounter at UFC 323.

During that fateful fight, Pantoja, known as 'The Cannibal', suffered an injury when Van caught his kick, leading to an awkward fall that resulted in immediate pain. The referee had to step in quickly, ending the match and Pantoja's reign as champion. However, the former titleholder's coach, Everton Oliveira from American Top Team, remains optimistic about Pantoja's recovery and his readiness to reclaim the title.

Oliveira expressed his excitement about Pantoja's progress since the injury, noting that despite the severity of the situation, surgery was not required. Instead, Pantoja began physical therapy shortly after the incident. “It was an extremely positive surprise the way Pantoja responded to the injury,” Oliveira stated. “The following week, he was already doing physical therapy.” This swift recovery has led Oliveira to believe that Pantoja could have returned to the Octagon as early as May if circumstances had allowed.

Moreover, Oliveira highlighted that the time away from competition may actually serve as an advantage for Pantoja. He noted that prior to the injury, Pantoja was experiencing one of the best phases of his career. The additional time for recovery has only intensified Pantoja's motivation and focus. “This time away from training only increased his motivation,” Oliveira remarked. “I’m excited to see this Pantoja 2.0 turbo version, with a performance above his normal level. He’s more mature and at his physical and technical prime.”

As Pantoja prepares for this pivotal rematch, the stakes are high. Not only does he seek to regain the championship belt, but he also aims to demonstrate his growth and resilience as a fighter. The matchup against Van will not only be a test of skill but also of Pantoja's ability to overcome adversity and return stronger than before. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Pantoja can rise to the occasion and reclaim his status as the flyweight champion.
