An Egyptian international is on his way out of Manchester City

Enzo Maresca put the possibility of Omar Marmoush leaving Manchester City firmly on the table during his team’s preseason tour of Asia. Maresca revealed that the Egyptian international wanted to play regularly after being reduced to a squad player, or Erling Haaland’s backup at City. It now looks like Marmoush will get his wish. Omar Marmoush is set to join Tottenham on loan for the 2026-27 season as he becomes another player to depart Manchester City this summer.

Omar Marmoush is to join Tottenham on loan and the chances are high that the move becomes permanent.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement to sign Omar Marmoush on loan from Manchester City. Furthermore, Romano reports that the deal includes an obligation to buy if certain triggers are met. Tottenham will pay £50 million to sign Marmoush if the triggers are met. As per Romano’s report, Marmoush is set to travel to London today to complete his medical.

Omar Marmoush unfortunately didn’t seem to fit in as a player at Manchester City.

It would seem that Omar Marmoush is set to join the long list of summer departures from Manchester City. Unfortunately for Marmoush, after he made a bright start to life at the club after joining City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, he has fallen down the pecking order. Some of that was due to injury and his participation at AFCON last season. However, Marmoush has been primarily viewed as a backup to Erling Haaland, meaning his opportunities to play regularly at City have been limited.

First, there doesn’t seem to be a role in Enzo Maresca’s squad outside of being Erling Haaland’s deputy for Omar Marmoush. A role on the wing isn’t available for him due to the type of wingers that Maresca prefers. Also, Marmoush isn’t likely to play in the number ten role either. So a summer move will give him more regular opportunities to play.

The other issue for Marmoush is he can be very hot and cold. On some occasions he can look like a world class player when he is on form. At other times, his first touch lets him down and he drifts completely out of matches. Perhaps Manchester City have decided that it is the best move for them and Omar Marmoush if leaves the club this summer.

Omar Marmoush is on the verge of completing a move to Tottenham. The Egyptian international needs to be playing regularly which is an opportunity he won’t get at Manchester City.
