Arctos will buy 10 percent of Falcons at $10.6 billion valuation

Private equity continues to make very public moves as to the NFL.

Via Mike Ozanian of CNBC, Arctos has agreed to buy 10 percent of the Falcons at a valuation of $10.6 billion.

As Ozanian explains, Arthur Blank currently owns 73 percent of the franchise. It's unclear whether Arctos is purchasing from his cut of the pie, or whether the stakes of other limited partners will be included.

Multiple teams have sold limited shares at valuations in excess of $10 billion, even though no team has sold a controlling stake at more than $10 billion.

The record price for control of a team will be set next week, if owners approve the purchase of the Seahawks for $9.612 billion.

The NFL, after resisting private equity investments for decades, has allowed pre-approved firms to purchase up to 10 percent of a given team. Specific firms may acquire shares in multiple franchises.
