Are the Yankees playing tonight? Storms could affect Astros game

The Yankees are looking for their third consecutive series win Thursday night when they host the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium.

Hopefully, Mother Nature won't interfere too much.

The Yankees (75-57) are coming off a 9-3 victory over Houston on Wednesday night. Rookie Elmer Rodriguez gave a tiring pitching staff a much-needed boost, and the Yankees scored four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth on their way to victory.

They'll look to finish off the three-game series with the Astros (66-67) as long as the weather cooperates.

There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the Bronx until 8 p.m. Thursday.

As of 2:30 p.m., there were reports of light rain and thunder in the area. Storms are expected to intensify around 4 p.m. before giving way to clearer skies around 8 p.m.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Gerrit Cole gets the start for the Yankees, while Hayden Wesneski is scheduled to start for the Astros.
