Arsenal close in on deal to sign Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

According to David Ornstein, the Gunners are advancing in discussions to bring the English international to North London. Arsenal have been in the market for reinforcements in defence due to the injuries to both William Saliba and Jurren Timber, and appear to have identified the primary target.

It has been reported throughout the summer transfer window so far that The Premier League Champions had Konsa high on their list of defensive targets, but there was thought to be a gap between the valuation of the two clubs.

It appears now as though that valuation gap has lessened and the transfer between the two sides is now closer than ever.

Arsenal value Konsa’s ability to play at both centre-back and right-back, and that versatility is thought to be a big reason why Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are such big fans of the player.

Alongside this, the experience that Konsa has in the Premier League, European competitions and now in the World Cup with England, has made him the number one defensive target for the club, with the transfer now advancing and in the closing stages.
