Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are actively working to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, although the manager admits there is a limited pool of players capable of taking the team to another level.
The Gunners completed the £75 million signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle on Saturday, with the Brazil midfielder making his Arsenal debut as a second-half substitute in Wednesday’s 1-1 friendly draw with Como.
However, Arsenal’s recruitment plans remain focused on adding further quality and depth, particularly in attack.
“There is more that we want to do because every time we have an opportunity to improve the squad and bring more quality and depth to the squad, we need to do that,” Arteta said.
“We are actively trying to do so. The thing in the market is that it doesn’t just depend on you. We are very clear on that.

Arsenal had been frustrated in their pursuit of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, who instead signed a new contract with the Spanish club, while Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa after also being considered by the Gunners.
The Premier League champions continue to be linked with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
Arteta’s comments suggest Arsenal remain willing to strengthen, but the manager acknowledges that finding players who represent a genuine upgrade will not be straightforward.
The Gunners’ immediate focus now turns to Sunday’s Community Shield against Manchester City, before their Premier League campaign begins later this month.
