Things took a turn for the worse for second-year running back Ashton Jeanty and the Las Vegas Raiders over the weekend.
Reports on Sunday indicate that Jeanty left practice early after suffering what was described as an "apparent knee injury." During the team period in practice, Jeanty reportedly landed awkwardly while diving for a catch, and had to be helped off the field by team trainers afterwards. Reports also say that Jeanty was unable to apply pressure to his right leg. No further update on his status has been provided by the franchise.

In what was otherwise a poor showing for the Raiders during the 2025 season, Jeanty proved to be a bright spot for the organization. After being selected with the sixth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, he had an impressive rookie showing – posting 975 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, while also adding 346 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. He was named to the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team for his efforts.
If Jeanty is out for an extended period of time, it will be a significant blow to the franchise at the running back position. There are four other running backs on the roster, but two of those are rookies, and the other two have little significant NFL experience. Mike Washington Jr., who was a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, is currently listed as Jeanty's backup. He's earned 119 rushing yards through his first two preseason outings this year.
