Aston Villa now eyeing AC Milan’s Tomori to replace Konsa

Aston Villa are eyeing a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as they look to shore up their rearguard, according to Luca Bianchin.

The Villains need a new centre-half after Ezri Konsa left to join the Premier League champions, and Tomori is one of their defensive targets.

The Englishman likes the idea of playing his football at Villa Park next season and could be sold for around €15 million.

Aston Villa have lost several key cogs in Unai Emery’s well-oiled machine. Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne and Konsa have all left.

Ollie Watkins could follow them out the door to make matters worse. The Villains must start making aggressive moves to plug these holes.

In defence, Tomori has caught the eye after five solid seasons in the Italian top flight, during which he helped his club win the league and the Italian Super Cup.

He was a mainstay in the first team last season under Massimiliano Allegri, operating in a back three or four (37 appearances).

Unfortunately, Ruben Amorim has shown him the door, allowing Aston Villa to pounce.

Villa interest in Tomori is unimaginative

However, Aston Villa’s pursuit of Tomori feels underwhelming, particularly for a club that needs to replace a commanding presence like Konsa.

Tomori’s pace remains his biggest asset, allowing him to recover quickly when exposed and defend a high line.

Beyond that, there are serious questions over whether he can truly improve Emery’s backline.

Tomori can struggle aerially and is hardly an imposing presence in central defence, which could leave Villa vulnerable against more physical Premier League attacks.

At around €15 million, the price may appear reasonable, but value should not be confused with suitability.

Villa need to be more ambitious.

Tomori’s speed is useful, but it should not be enough to make an otherwise uninspiring defensive target the answer to their problems.
