Atlanta United has officially signed midfielder Giuliano Galoppo on loan from the prestigious Argentine club River Plate, the team announced on Wednesday. This move is part of Atlanta's strategy to bolster their roster as they approach the critical final stretch of the season.
The 27-year-old Galoppo will remain with Atlanta through June 30, 2027, and the agreement includes an option for the club to purchase him outright. Chris Henderson, the chief soccer officer and sporting director for Atlanta United, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, highlighting Galoppo's dynamic playing style and tactical acumen.
Henderson stated, “Giuliano is a dynamic midfielder who has a good tactical understanding of the game, quality on the ball and the ability to contribute goals from midfield.” He further emphasized that Galoppo's versatility in playing multiple positions in midfield will enhance the competition within the squad.
Galoppo has spent the last two seasons at River Plate, where he made a significant impact by scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 48 appearances across all competitions. His career began with CA Banfield, his boyhood club, before he made a move to Brazil to play for São Paulo. Over the course of his career, Galoppo has accumulated a total of 39 goals and eight assists in nearly 200 appearances.
As it stands, Atlanta United is currently in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, with a total of 21 points. They find themselves four points adrift of the playoff positions, making the addition of a player like Galoppo crucial as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
