An "overwhelming" amount of support and aid has flooded in for a Lake Travis high school football player hospitalized since Monday following a major health episode in practice.
With a prayer vigil scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Hills Church for Odin Hensley, a GoFundMe campaign started for Hensley's family to help pay for medical expenses surpassed $110,000 as of early Wednesday afternoon. Hensley has not be identified by school officials but has been named in a public flyer and donation page asking for support.
Hensley, a senior, suffered what the GoFundMe page stated was "cardiac arrest." The American-Statesman was not able to immediately reach the organizer of the campaign. An employee with Dell Children's Medical Center said Wednesady afternoon he is in the "cardiac unit," but no details were given on his condition.
Lake Travis football coach Hank Carter posted on social media Monday that a "student-athlete suffered a serious health emergency" around 8 a.m. and was taken to a hospital by helicopter. A call Wednesday afternoon by the Statesman to Lake Travis ISD spokesperson Marco Alvarado seeking further information. was not immediately returned.
Support rolls in for Odin HensleySeveral people and entities, including Lake Travis' chief rival, have extended support for Hensley. A Lake Travis High School Football page on Facebook shared a photo of a handwritten poster that appeared to come from Westlake football, offering prayers. The page also mentioned that the vigil for Hensley had to be moved to the church because of the "overwhelming response."
Social media pages for Barstool Sports and Texas Football Life have shared the GoFundMe for Hensley and it's reached $114,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
