Barcelona €70 million summer signing has already won over the fans in a short time

Arriving at a new club, settling into a new city and winning over the supporters can be difficult for any signing.

FC Barcelona summer signing Anthony Gordon, 25, appears to have managed all three already, as per Mundo Deportivo.

The English forward joined Barcelona from Newcastle for €70 million plus €10 million in variables and has made an impressive start to life in Catalonia.

His performances in the league opener against Elche, where he provided two assists, followed by another excellent display against Athletic Club in Thursday’s 2-0 victory, appear to have convinced the few remaining doubters of his signing.

Flick initially opted for a gradual introduction for the summer signing. Gordon started on the bench against Elche, but his 25-minute cameo on the left wing was more than enough to show that he had arrived ready to play an important role.

Just three minutes after coming on, he set up Raphinha for Barcelona’s third goal.

Three minutes later, Gordon found himself one-on-one with the Elche goalkeeper and had the chance to score his first goal for the club. Instead, he chose to square the ball for Fermin Lopez, allowing his teammate to make it 0-4.

That gesture did not go unnoticed by either the Barcelona supporters or Fermin, who had begun the season with his confidence affected after an injury prevented him from joining his teammates at the World Cup.

Gordon, who had replaced Lamine Yamal, showed both his generosity and his willingness to put the team ahead of his own personal statistics.

On Thursday, Gordon made his Camp Nou debut as a starter. Flick handed him a place in the starting XI on his natural left flank, replacing Karim Adeyemi, who had started against Elche.

The Englishman proved a constant problem for Athletic’s right-back, Hugo Rincon.

His pace and quality on the ball were among Barcelona’s main attacking weapons during the first half, while his combination with Lamine Yamal produced several dangerous moments in the Athletic penalty area.

Then, in the 69th minute, the Spotify Camp Nou made its feelings clear.

Gordon had moved towards the goal to take a drink when a large section of the crowd began chanting his name. The forward responded by applauding the supporters and repeatedly tapping the Barcelona badge on his shirt.

It is still early days in his Barcelona career, but Gordon has already won over the fans. And judging by his performances and reaction to the supporters, Barcelona appears to be winning him over too.
