Barcelona not interested in Colombian forward due to €80 million price-tag

There is much excitement at Barcelona surrounding the addition of Rodri into the club’s midfield unit.

At the same time, there is much anxiety as well, with the Blaugrana still yet to make a breakthrough in the pursuit of star striker Julian Alvarez.

Earlier in the month, Luis Suarez had emerged as a potential alternative, should Barcelona fail to secure teh services of Alvarez this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Suarez, suggesting that the Catalans are not keen on the forward.

While Romano does acknowledge that Barcelona were interested in a move for Suarez earlier and had even made contact with the player’s representatives.

However, Barcelona were taken aback by Sporting CP’s rich valuation for the Colombian forward, who had scored 28 goals in the Portuguese league last season.

Sporting CP have no desire to sell the star forward and pointed to his release clause, valued around €80 million.

Barcelona consider that valuation too high for Luis Suarez and are, therefore, not too keen on acquiring his services. They are still monitoring the situation but won’t make any immediate moves unless the price changes.

For now, Barcelona still remain keen on signing Julian Alvarez but as mentioned earlier, that pursuit has not progressed much.

This has led to Barcelona being linked with a series of alternatives, Luis Suarez included.

One of the names hot on the transfer market right now is Viktor Gyokeres. Recent reports have indicated that Barcelona are interested in the Arsenal frontman, though the club are yet to make any contact with the Swede.

Another option Barcelona have is Hamza Abdelkarim, who is already being trained to become the ultimate number nine for the club.

Hamza has shown a lot of promise in pre-season and it will be interesting to see how he progresses in the coming weeks, with an eye of making a big breakthrough in the first-team.
