Barcelona and Marc Bernal are set to meet to open talks on a new and improved contract for the 19-year-old midfielder.
According to ESPN, Bernal and sporting director Deco will meet later this week to reiterate the club’s complete faith in the youngster and to establish the basis of a salary increase.
Bernal signed a five-year contract until 2030 with a €500 million release clause last year, but there wasn’t much improvement to his wages given the club’s issues with Financial Fair Play at the time.
Deco promised Bernal they would sit down once the club returned to the 1:1 rule, which happened this summer and has allowed the club to spend big in the market.
The improved financial situation will also allow Barça to take care of Bernal, who is seen as a very important part of the future. The club’s faith in Bernal remains unchanged despite the imminent signing of Spain captain Rodri, and they want to show their love to the teenage midfield gem with a better salary moving forward.
