Bayern Munich sent 18 players to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including six members to the German national team, plus Jonas Urbig as a training-only contributor. While most of the senior squad suffered through the heat in North America, many of Bayern’s younger players trained at Säbener Straße to prepare for the preseason circuit.
Bayern has played four friendlies so far and will fit in two more matches ahead of the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup next weekend. First, Bayern will face off against RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup before a quick turnaround against Heidenheim, a late addition to the preseason slate.
Bayern’s busy summer allowed Vincent Kompany and the staff to get a solid look at a few different players. According to Kerry Hau (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), Bayern has already made a decision on a specific player.
Felipe Chávez is set to be loaned out for more playing time. Wolfsburg, Paderborn, Deportivo A Coruña & an elite Portuguese club are interested. Talks are ongoing. Chávez still has a contract with Bayern until 2028. He impressed during preseason.
After bagging a pair of goals and assists against Rottach-Egern, Chavez scored the opening goal against Jeju SK FC. The 19-year old Peruvian right winger performed well but is not quite ready to contribute at Bayern’s highest level quite yet. A season on loan will provide the opportunity for accelerated growth and confidence.
