The Bundesliga is back!
And Bayern Munich is as Bayern Munich as ever. Picking up right where they left off last season, the Bavarians got rolling in a 5-1 demolition of VfB Stuttgart — one of the league’s top contenders and another major supplier of German men’s national team talent.
The visiting Swabians held Bayern in check for a good while, and even knotted it up after the break to keep the drama going. But Bayern responded swiftly to the leveler and poured it on from there. By the hour mark, it was 3-1 and the German champions were in cruise control, almost toying with their prey.
Just how Bayern drew it up.
“Stuttgart is a good team, they have good players and a strong attack,” Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer said after the match in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “But from the start, we were determined to give everything to have a perfect start to the season. I think we showed that today.”
After the Men’s World Cup, Bayern has had a jam-packed preseason. But despite facing a stiff test in the opener, the Bavarians already look in mid-season form. It could be another long year for the rest of the Bundesliga hopefuls…then again, perhaps hope is but a glimmer already forsaken in these lands.
