Aug. 24—A second-straight WISSOTA Modified feature with no caution flags meant there were almost no obstacles between Carlton's Jody Bellefeuille and a sixth win of the season and 23rd of his career at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior on Friday night, Aug. 21.
After getting past polesitter David Simpson and breaking away from Colin Chaschuk, Bellefeuille needed just five laps to build a leading margin of over a second despite starting third on Friday night. The final margin was 5.4 seconds ahead of Brady Uotinen as Bellefeuille boosted his points lead in the division and continued a bid to earn the national WISSOTA Modified crown.
Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minnesota has a longer and deeper history of success, and his win Friday in the WISSOTA Super Stocks was the 1,050th of his career.
Sabraski took advantage of some timely cautions on Friday to erase Steve Stuart's early lead, pulling ahead on lap nine of 20 and going on to win by 5.3 seconds.
After a multi-car wreck from a restart led to a long delay, Sabraski passed Andy Grymala for second before passing Stuart on the low side two circuits later.
Top honors in the WISSOTA Late Models went to Billy Kendall of Walker, Minnesota, starting on the outside of the front row. Kendall slipped past Cory Jorgensen on the first lap and held off all comers, ending up just under a second ahead of the field and main challengers Sam Mars and Skeeter Estey when the checkered flag dropped.
A cameo appearance by David Baxter of Eau Claire in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds led to a victory in Superior on Friday night. Baxter, holder of multiple victories this summer at ABC Raceway in Ashland, won from the outside of the front row, handling two restarts with ease for a 3.5-second win.
Tom Treviranus of Hawthorne won a three-way thriller with Aaron Bernick and Austin Fencl in a Pure Stock feature that included a scary wreck near the front of the field caused by a steering failure on third-place runner and polesitter Steve Karshbaum, who turned hard into the wall on the frontstretch and back into traffic, where Shane Basina hit him at full speed and went airborne before landing in the infield grass. Both drivers were unhurt.
The three-man formation of Treviranus, Bernick and Fencl carried all the way to the checkers with Treviranus finishing in front by maybe a half a car length.
Nikota Larson of Kettle River claimed a sixth-straight win in the WISSOTA Hornets on Friday night, checking out to win by half a straightaway.
Friday's program included the track's eighth-annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Night, with each of the night's winners presented their trophies from family and friends of persons affected by suicide.
The regular season at the speedway is scheduled to end with the program on Friday, Aug. 28, as all six divisions will be on the track.
