Blue helmets set to make comeback for Florida football in 2026 season

The blue helmets are making a comeback.

Florida football revealed some interesting new uniform combinations for the 2026 season this week, including an all-blue look that will include blue pants, blue jerseys and blue helmets.

The last time the Florida Gators wore blue helmets was in 2020, when quarterback Kyle Trask threw for 433 yards and 4 TDs in UF's 31-19 win over Tennessee at Neyland Stadium.

Another new jersey combination includes a retro-1980s Denver Broncos look that features blue helmets, orange jerseys and white pants. John Elway and Dan Reeves would approve.

First-year Florida football coach Jon Sumrall has discussed wanting to develop a player-focused program, and different uniforms are popular with younger players on the recruiting trails. Oregon has managed to attract blue chip talent, in part, due to its numerous and colorful uniform combos as a Nike school.

Florida was fairly conservative with uniform combinations in four seasons under Billy Napier, rarely straying from its traditional blue jersey, white pants look during home games. The Gators did experiment with all black uniforms for the first time in school history on Nov. 4, 2023, against Arkansas as part of its Salute to Service weekend. On the field, it didn't go over well, as the Gators were upset 39-36 in overtime by the Razorbacks. It continued a five-game slide as UF closed the 2023 regular season at 5-7.
