From the outset, the Blugolds demonstrated their determination and skill, racing to a 17-0 lead. "We felt very confident about our game plan in all three areas, we really did," Erickson stated. "We had a really good fall camp and our team was ready to go. We still have a lot to work on, but I am proud of the performance we had."
The Blugolds opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ayden Helder, followed by a 23-yard touchdown run from Paxton Rothmeier, who finished the game with an impressive 146 yards on 18 carries. In a dramatic finish, Alma had one last chance to tie the game after a bizarre sequence of events allowed them to take possession at the Blugolds' 27-yard line with only one second left on the clock. Boge's desperate Hail Mary pass into the end zone was ultimately batted down, sealing the victory for UW-Eau Claire.
Helder's performance included 127 passing yards, and he expressed the importance of this win, stating, "It was absolutely a huge win for us. It's a great way to start the season in front of the home fans. Everyone came through. I have nothing but the utmost praise for my teammates." Rothmeier echoed similar sentiments, attributing his success to the offensive line's performance.
The Blugolds' defense was a standout aspect of the game, managing to shut out Alma in the first half and making crucial stops when it mattered most. Linebacker Keagan Christy highlighted the team's physicality and motivation, noting the impact of the new defensive coaching staff. "Credit to our coaches. We have three new defensive coaches and they had us ready. We just have to keep getting better every day," he said.

Helder emphasized the team's growth and maturity, stating, "We are a more experienced and more mature team now. I think that was what you saw in the game today. We handled that adversity better than we have in the past." Coach Erickson added, "The biggest thing is to stay hungry.
