Breel Embolo (29) had been closing in on a move to Atlanta United, as per L’Équipe. Stade Rennais had accepted a €17m bid for the Switzerland international from the MLS side. It is a deal that would have made him one of the most expensive signings in MLS history. However, the striker has rejected the US side’s contract offer, L’Équipe understands.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, have been interested for several weeks, Get French Football News understands, and they are now making concrete steps to conclude a deal. The newly promoted Premier League side are willing to meet Rennes’ demands in order to sign the former AS Monaco striker. A contract offer has also been sent to Embolo, whose deal with the Breton club runs until 2029.
Whilst Atlanta United have not completely given up on securing Embolo’s signature, L’Équipe understands that Ipswich Town are now the favourites to sign him before the closure of the transfer window.
