The Milwaukee Brewers are holding their breath after center fielder Garrett Mitchell left their 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Mitchell was hit in the right forearm by a Tyler Mahle pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Mitchell left the game with a right forearm contusion.

While he stayed in the game to run the bases, he did not return to play defense in the fifth. Luis Lara took over in center field.
The Brewers have a pretty firm hold of the National League Central division. They carry a six-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for first place. FanGraphs gives them a 92.2% chance to win the division.

“In the belly of my wrist, but it’s fine,” Mitchell told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. “It hurt, it didn’t feel good, but it’s fine.”
The fact that Mitchell was in good spirits is also a great sign for the Brewers. Mitchell has battled injuries through his career, but has stayed healthy for the 2026 season. He’s slashing .262/.360/.422 with nine home runs and a 119 wRC+ in a career-high 118 games.
Mitchell revealed that he underwent X-rays on his right forearm. He revealed that they came back negative before donning a smile. The topic of the postgame scrum then shifted to the Little League Classic event and Mitchell’s experiences playing Little League.
The Brewers will be off on Monday, but travel to Citi Field to take on the New York Mets for a three-game series. The Mets are starting left-hander Zach Thornton for the series opener, so Mitchell might be sitting that game anyway.
Brewers Face Outfield Roster CrunchThe Brewers are getting an outfielder back from injury soon. Sal Frelick is currently rehabbing with Triple-A Nashville. He’s been on the injured list since June 18 with a strained right shoulder.
Milwaukee will have to consider a potential roster move. Luis Lara will be the player to watch, as he could be the odd man out. But the Brewers could also consider him their fourth outfielder and send down an infielder instead. Lara is a switch-hitter, which complements the left-handed swinging Mitchell and Frelick.
With Frelick possibly returning in right field, Jake Bauers could be more in line for starts at first base. The Brewers will have to handle the playing time juggle for their best players down the stretch.
