The 2026 NFL regular season is fast approaching, but there is still time for teams to fine-tune their rosters.
The Denver Broncos have one of the most talented rosters in the league, but for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, they can leave no stone unturned. The team does seem to have a bit of a weakness at the inside linebacker spot, and that is something that has been talked about all offseason.
The team is taking a bit of a risk with its starters, Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad. Singleton is not the best against the pass and Strnad was a reserve player until 2024. Beyond them, the depth is young and inexperienced.
Broncos should take a long look at Bobby WagnerA veteran option should be loudly discussed within the organization, and there is one name on the open market that makes plenty of sense. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has noticed the same thing and feels that the Broncos (along with the Dallas Cowboys) could be top landing spots for Bobby Wagner.
"Landing with a Super Bowl contender would make the most sense at this stage in Wagner's career," Knox wrote for Bleacher Report. "The Denver Broncos are expected to be that, and they could certainly use an off-ball linebacker. Justin Strnad is a solid starter, but Alex Singleton has been a liability against the pass, and Denver lacks depth behind those two at inside linebacker."
Knox also mentions the Cowboys as a possibility, who already broke the hearts of many Broncos fans when they signed Von Miller last week.
Now 36 years old, Wagner has spent the past two seasons with the Washington Commanders and is likely just looking for a chance to play for a contender at this stage in his career. He has put together what is arguably a career worthy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, credited with over 2,000 tackles, 39.5 sacks and 15 interceptions.
But it's Wagner's experience playing at an extremely high level that would be his most valuable asset in Denver. Should either Singleton or Strnad struggle (or suffer injuries), coach Sean Payton would have an incredible option to turn to. Currently, he does not have that.
The Broncos made a signing like this earlier in the week when they brought in Taylor Rapp to add depth to the safety position. If they can make financial terms work for Wagner, there is almost no reason not to make this deal happen before the season starts.
