The Denver Broncos won't play all of their starters in Friday's preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, coach Sean Payton indicated after Wednesday's practice.
The list of players expected to sit out includes quarterback Bo Nix, who returned from January's broken ankle to make his preseason debut last week. Payton said Nix "probably won’t play" against Minnesota, but the coach did not reveal the plan for other starters.
Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger will handle the quarterback snaps with Nix sitting out Friday's game. Stidham and Ehlinger have been competing for the backup QB job, and it seems that Stidham has a clear lead based on the preseason rotation.
After the game on Friday, attention will quickly turn to roster cuts as the Broncos will have until 4 p.m. MT on Sunday to finalize an initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season. Following waiver claims on Monday, teams will build 16- or 17-player practice squads ahead of the regular season.
