Bronny James trade idea reunites son with father in 76ers-Lakers proposal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Among the questions that still have to be answered throughout the NBA offseason after LeBron James decided to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and join the Philadelphia 76ers, what happens with his son, Bronny James, is seemingly at the top of that list.
There hasn't been much talk about whether the Lakers want to move on from Bronny, but with LeBron deciding to play with the 76ers, there's always a possibility that Los Angeles does him a solid because of what he did for the organization.
At the same time, this is a business, and if the Lakers think that Bronny can help their team in the future, there wouldn't be any reason to help the 76ers out.
Despite that reality, one writer recently floated the idea of sending James to the 76ers, with the Lakers receiving some assets in return.
Wolves receive: Jarred Vanderbilt and Nolan Traore.
Nets receive: Dalton Knecht
Sixers receive: Bronny James
Lakers receive: Josh Green and a second-round pick in 2031 (via PHI) and a second-round pick in 2032 (via BKN).
“James’ father has not yet officially requested that his son join him in Philly. It is still up for speculation, however, given James’ rather modest deal, any green light would mean a swift move for him.
“James’ salary for the upcoming season was guaranteed, but at only $2.3 million, it was more of a case of preventing him from being waived. Heading into Year 3, the Lakers may not be keen on having two development stars in James and Knecht occupying valuable roster spots,” Adel Ahmad wrote.
Going by talent and assets alone here, it's not the wrong idea to say that Los Angeles should consider a trade like this, but a lot of it depends on how they feel about Bronny as a player.
He showed some nice signs throughout the early stages of his career, and while he still has a ton to work on, there have been moments when he looks to be a decent player.
