The Cleveland Browns have a lot of young talent worth getting excited about on their roster, but unfortunately, one of those young players got hurt.
Alex Wright was carted off the field during practice against the Buffalo Bills following an injury in one-on-ones against Bills tackle Spencer Brown. Unfortunately, it was a serious injury for the young lineman.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Wright suffered a ruptured Achilles and will now miss the entire 2026 season due to this brutal injury.
Alex Wright placed on IR amid season-ending Achilles injury"ESPN sources: The Browns are placing starting DE Alex Wright on season-ending ruptured Achilles, and they now will sign former first-round pick DE Derek Barnett," Schefter reports.
This is some brutal news for the Browns and Wright, especially after their young standout edge rusher signed this offseason to a $33 million deal over three seasons.
He played in 14 games, recording career highs with 5.5 sacks, 37 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits.
The 25-year-old defensive end seemed poised for another strong season, even without Garrett on the opposite side of the defensive line.

But now, he's going to miss all of 2026 and has a long road to recovery from this torn Achilles. Jared Verse will now get Derek Barnett, alongside the other depth pieces on the roster, to work with this upcoming season.
This is a brutal blow for the Browns, as they were already exploring edge rusher additions before this injury. Now, they've lost one of the more key players on the team for the season and will likely need even more help after adding Barnet.
Wright is going to miss the entire 2026 NFL season for the Browns, and he has a lengthy recovery ahead of him. It's a brutal injury for both player and team, as Wright was set to have a large role this upcoming season for Cleveland.
