Browns reportedly plan to make QB decision one day after Shedeur Sanders' preseason start originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns are sending Shedeur Sanders out to be the team's Week 2 starting quarterback for the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
Deshaun Watson got the Week 1 start, and now Sanders will get his turn. He will be running with more of the backups than Watson did, but this is still a big opportunity for Sanders to prove himself to Todd Monken.
But after his start, what comes next? According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Browns are reportedly planning to meet Sunday to discuss the QB competition, and their final decision could come Monday, just two days after this preseason start from Sanders.
Browns reportedly plan to make QB decision in days after Sanders' preseason start"Browns QBs: Todd Monken will huddle with his staff Sunday to assess the body of work from Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Decision could come Monday," Fowler reports.
This report from Fowler shouldn't come as a huge surprise, but it's still noteworthy that the Browns plan to make a decision shortly after Sanders' preseason Week 2 start.
With just one more preseason game after this Bills matchup, the Browns are running out of time to make a decision before the regular season.
This decision should not drag out through that third preseason game. But with the Browns likely wanting to get as much practice time with the No. 1 QB and his respective offensive supporting cast, making a decision as soon as possible would be ideal.

If Sanders struggles for Cleveland during his preseason start, the decision will be easy for Monken and company.
Watson is the frontrunner at the moment, and barring an incredible day, it's his job to lose. But if Sanders were to play great, then maybe the Browns have a tougher decision on their hands.
Regardless of who's named the starter, the other QB is probably still going to see playing time this upcoming season, as the starter likely won't play well enough to keep their job all season long.
There is still some uncertainty about when the decision will be made, but this report from Fowler indicates that Sunday, August 23 could be the day when Monken and the coaching staff get together to make this decision.
