Despite rumors that LIV Golf had found an angel investor for 2027, the league's slow descent into collapse continues to move forward. Unpaid vendors, upset employees, and rumors that Jon Rahm's days with the organization were numbered all swirled until finally, the season-ending championship was canceled.
LIV Golf, at least how fans have come to know it in recent years, is dead.
It didn't take long for the news to make the rounds across professional golf, with six-time major champion Rory McIlroy throwing an absolute haymaker at their soon-to-be defunct competitor.
And then Rory with a haymaker when asked about LIV players bringing value to the PGA Tour. "I mean, have they brought value to LIV?" https://t.co/ZZB4uENuHj
— dougferguson405 (@dougferguson405) August 19, 2026McIlroy's comments are obviously a huge gut punch to the organization, and LIV Golf probably didn't take too kindly.
LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau, participating in the latest event in Indianapolis, took part in an interview during the round, trying to assure viewers that they do in fact "bring value to the game of golf."
What did Bryson DeChambeau say?DeChambeau spoke earnestly, stressing the importance of the league for fans, golfers and everyone involved, recounting memories of great crowds across continents at various events.
At the end of his answer, he mentions that he hopes people can see that "[the golfers] bring value to the game." That may or may not have been a subtle dig at McIlroy's comments.
