Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka limped off the field with an apparent lower-body injury at training camp Wednesday in Florham Park, N.J.
Buccaneers coach Todd Bowls did not provide an update when he met with the media. Egbuka was examined by trainers on the sideline, and he ended participation in the practice.
"I don't know his status as of right now," Bowles told reporters. "I was on the other field. But I'll check on that as soon as I go in."
Egbuka, who joined the Buccaneers as the No. 19 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, totaled 63 catches for 938 yards and six scores over 17 appearances as a rookie.
He is set for an even bigger role in 2026 following the departure of veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Jalen McMillan and Chris Godwin were the other starting wide receivers listed on the Buccaneers' first unofficial depth chart for 2026.
Ted Hurst III, Tez Johnson, David Sills V, Garrett Greene, Kameron Johnson, Dean Patterson IV, Dennis Houston and Eric Rivers Jr. are the Buccaneers' other wide receivers.
The Buccaneers will face the New York Jets in their preseason opener at 7 p.m. EDT Friday in East Rutherford, N.J. They will play the Cincinnati Bengals in their regular-season opener at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 in Cincinnati.
