Are we buying or selling the KC Concepcion hype? It's a fair question to ask because the reality is that he has played two quarters in the NFL against primarily NFL backups, but the entire NFL world is enthralled by what they saw, and rightfully so.
In my opinion, the jury is still very much out on how good Concepcion can really be, but there is so much to like about his game. There are people throwing around crazy comparisons to some past legends of the game, and we aren't there yet, but that doesn't mean he can't be.
Just because it is too early to tell exactly what his potential is, that is certainly not advice not to buy the stock. There isn't enough stock in the world that I wouldn't buy for this young player because he brings so much to the table. The first thing that stands out is his mentality.
Buy all of the KC Concepcion Stock that you can; he possesses everything a star receiver needsPrior to the NFL Draft, he wrote a message to every GM in the NFL saying that he is "the best wide receiver in this draft," and "You're not going to regret calling my name." It takes supreme confidence to even think that, let alone write it down on paper and send it off to your future boss. He doesn't lack it, and he backs it up.
On Monday, he told the media that he prides himself on never being tackled by a cornerback, ever. He wasn't kidding; that is the mentality that he has every time he touches the football. It came to life on Saturday when he carried the ball around the edge for a touchdown.
From a physical standpoint, he has it all. Yes, he is a little bit undersized, but in today's NFL, that doesn't matter like it used to. Wide receivers create separation with their quickness, and Concepcion has that maxed out. He gets in and out of cuts so smoothly and so aggressively that he naturally creates huge separation.
Finally, his toughness stands out most. We touched on his mental toughness above, but his physical toughness is admirable. He takes big hits; he isn't afraid to put his body on the line, and he pops back up, no matter what. If he has a drop, he is mentally tough enough to get by it; if he takes a big hit, he is physically tough enough to withstand it.
KC Concepcion has all the tools to be a great NFL receiver. We can pump the brakes on the excitement after just two quarters of football, but buy all of the stock that you can. It will never be as low as it is today.
