Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark discussed her soccer past with legendary striker Robert Lewandowski when he attended her game against the Chicago Sky.
Lewandowski is familiarising himself with Chicago sports after joining the city’s MLS side, the Fire, and attended the WNBA game between the Sky and Fever on Sunday, August 23.
Despite being there with the Sky, Lewandowski clicked a photo with Fever superstar Clark, as the 24-year-old admitted her fandom for the sport Lewandowski mastered.
Caitlin Clark admits she’s a huge soccer fan to Robert LewandowskiA video of Clark’s interaction with Lewandowski surfaced where the 24-year-old WNBA star tells the 39-year-old Polish legend that she is a huge soccer fan and played it up until it was time to focus only on basketball.
“Is this your first WNBA game?… Thank you for coming…I’m a huge soccer fan; I played all through high school. I gave it up for basketball, but it worked out ok.”
Clark was considered prodigious on the soccer field during her high school days, with many coaches stating she could have been a Division 1 soccer player as well if she focused on that.
Clark’s exploits in soccer started at five years old, playing in local youth clubs in Iowa as a striker.
She played varsity high school soccer for Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa before quitting to focus on basketball, as she was already a nationally recognised basketball player.
Clark has multiple high school accolades, including an alleged 40-yard game-winner in a state cup final. A coach-controlled stats site called MaxPreps lists Clark having scored 42 goals in 27 games over the two high school seasons she played before focusing on basketball.
Caitlin Clark is a self-admitted Lionel Messi fanClark doesn’t hide her soccer fandom, admitting before the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final in July that she is a huge Lionel Messi fan and was rooting for Argentina to win the World Cup final.

The only reason Clark didn’t attend the Final was because the Fever had a back-to-back during that time, but the outcome wouldn’t have been one she wanted to watch in person.
It’s unclear if Clark openly supports any major European team or an MLS squad, but her Messi admission makes Inter Miami as a potential team for her to support.
