The WNBA rescinded Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul of the season Saturday, and the Indiana Fever guard will not serve a one-game suspension.
Late in the third quarter of Indiana's 90-86 victory against the Chicago Sky at the United Center, Clark was fouled on a drive but no foul was called. She then passed to Myisha Hines-Allen near the baseline, and as her momentum carried her out of bounds, she bumped into an official, who called a technical foul shortly after. Fever coach Stephanie White believed that the argument over this call resulted in her receiving a technical as well.
Indiana appealed after the game, White told reporters. The league reversed the call hours later, per Kareem Copeland of ESPN.
Clark said the referee told her she had run into her.
"She said I ran into her," Clark said. "I have already watched it on the tape. So, we'll let the league decide. But it wasn't anything intentional or anything…"
A player who accumulates eight technical fouls in a WNBA regular season is suspended one game, with further suspensions for technicals after that. Chicago's Angel Reese sat a game under the same rule in 2025 after reaching eight.
Had the call stood, Clark would have missed Tuesday's game against the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She stays at seven technicals, the most in the league this season. Five other players have drawn more than four.
Indiana has appealed several of Clark's technicals this season. Saturday's was the first the league granted.
Against the Sky, Clark scored 26 points with 4 rebounds and 11 assists. She shot 7-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from 3-point range. At the free throw line she went 7-of-10, and she finished with 6 turnovers and 2 steals. Saturday was her sixth game this season with at least 25 points and 10 assists. Five was the previous single-season record, set by Clark in 2024.
Entering Saturday, Clark was averaging 21.5 points and 8.0 assists. She was shooting 44.1% from the field and 34.1% from 3-point range.
Clark accumulated six technicals as a rookie in 2024, with a limit of seven. Before the 2025 season, she mentioned telling White she was targeting two.
Kelsey Mitchell topped all scorers Saturday with 27 points, marking her 16th straight game with at least 20 points—the longest such streak in league history. Aliyah Boston contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Sky guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected in the first quarter after a flagrant 2 foul for a hard hit on Sophie Cunningham. Additionally, Natasha Cloud, who scored 17 points for Chicago, received a technical foul.
Two days earlier, Indiana lost 86-84 at home to Las Vegas after leading by 20 in the second quarter. Clark scored 20 points with 8 assists and 8 turnovers in that game.
Indiana holds a 20-12 record and is leading the Eastern Conference. The Fever will play against New York on Tuesday and Dallas on Friday.
