Caitlin Clark needed one basket to reach 1,700 career points. The shot she made accomplished considerably more than that. With 8:54 remaining in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game against the Dallas Wings, Clark connected on a 26-foot 3-pointer. The basket cut Indiana’s deficit to 70-64 and gave Clark 10 points on the night.
It also pushed the Fever guard to 1,700 points in her 86th career game. Reaching that scoring milestone so quickly placed Clark alongside some of the most accomplished offensive players in WNBA history. Doing it while already having more than 400 rebounds and 700 assists moved her into a category by herself.
Clark reaches statistical territory no player has touched this quicklyClark entered Thursday with 1,690 points, 415 rebounds and 716 assists in her three-year career. Her fourth-quarter 3-pointer made her one of the fastest players in league history to reach 1,700 points. Cynthia Cooper-Dyke reached the total in 77 games, while Clark joined a small group of stars who needed 86 games or fewer.
The broader statistical achievement was even more impressive. Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to record at least 1,700 points, 400 rebounds and 700 assists, according to Across the Timeline.
Sabrina Ionescu previously held the record after reaching all three marks in 120 games. Clark beat that pace by 34 games. Sue Bird accomplished the combination in 139 games, followed by Shannon Johnson in 149 and Lindsay Whalen in 151.

Milestone captures Clark’s complete impactScoring has driven much of Clark’s popularity, dating back to her record-setting career at Iowa. Her WNBA numbers show why defining her only as a shooter misses the larger point. Clark’s passing transformed the Fever’s offense from the moment she entered the league. She also has been a productive rebounder from the guard position, frequently beginning transition opportunities herself after collecting missed shots.
That versatility allowed her to reach a benchmark no other WNBA player has matched at the same stage of a career.
Clark’s milestone could not rescue Indiana on Thursday. The Fever fell 91-85, ending their five-game winning streak and dropping their record to 24-13. The loss, however, does little to diminish the pace of Clark’s career production.
In only 86 games, she has combined elite scoring with historic playmaking and dependable rebounding. The 1,700th point was another achievement, but the complete statistical line surrounding it told the bigger story.
