Perhaps no one on the Chicago Bears offense has consistently stood out in training camp as much as running back D’Andre Swift, who is coming off the best season of his career after recording 1,087 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns in 2025.
Quarterback Caleb Williams is excited about how Swift has been performing, and he explained how important the veteran running back is to making the offense run.
"Selfishly, he helps everybody on the field when he can go and be the special back that he is, whether it’s passing or short yardage and running downhill," Williams said. "We got a couple backs in that room, but specifically D’Andre, I’m excited for him. I think he’s going to have a great year."
Part of what made Chicago’s offense so successful last season was their balance between the run and the pass. The Bears had two running backs with over 750 rushing yards last year, Swift and Kyle Monangai, and had the third-most rushing yards of any team in the league. This helped Chicago’s passing game also be in the top-10 with the 10th-most touchdowns and fewest interceptions.
Swift was not actually involved in the passing game much compared to other seasons. He finished the season with a career-low 34 receptions for 299 receiving yards, his second-lowest in his six-year career. Nonetheless, Williams said that Swift is going to be a big piece of the passing game this year.
"He only helps the passing game," Williams said. "He only helps us win games. He only helps us; it’s all help, help, help. He’s going to be a big piece of that. He’s a pro. He’s a professional, he has a routine that he sticks to and he’s true to that. So I’m excited for him and I’m excited for us."
